AFTER Toronto, New York and Abu Dhabi, the latest stop on our international book tour has been Oslo. We were intrigued to hear what egalitarian Norway would make of the book. Thanks to a law introduced by a conservative trade and industry minister, this Scandinavian nation has achieved in a few short years what no other country has managed: near gender-parity on the boards of its leading companies.

Avivah and I’ve been busy promoting Why Women Mean Business in North America and across Europe in the last few months. We had big, successful launch events hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers in Toronto (3 April) and New York (7 April). In New York, we also spoke at a Citi Women’s Council lunch and were interviewed on Fox Business Channel’s “Happy Hour” in the Bull & Bear Bar of the Waldorf Astoria.

TALKING TACTICS AT BRUSSELS BOOK LAUNCH by Admin Y Women Mean Business

We received clear support from the European Commission about the need for change when we launched our book in Brussels on February 5. Nikolaus van der Pas, Director-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, said the EU might have to legislate if employers did not take measures to ensure that men shared child-care leave and responsibilities with their partners.
